Joanne and Sean, both from Clonmel in Co. Tipperary, never crossed paths until their first date, having met on the dating app Bumble, where they quickly hit it off.
Joanne studied visual communications in Waterford and now runs a graphic and Web design company in Clonmel, while Sean studied pharmacy in the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin and is now a pharmacist working between various pharmacies in Tipperary.
Joanne and Sean both share a love for travel, painting, swimming in the sea, cycling, music, and all things adventurous and active. They have seen much of the world and look forward to exploring more of it together.
After a few months of dating, Sean moved home, and the couple were looking to move in together but found that renting costs were too high. However, they were confident they were meant to be together forever, and so they decided to take the plunge and bought their first home in August 2022.
One of the things that caught Joanne’s heart from the very beginning was how Sean focuses on the little details of the people around him, such as their favourite music, food, and past times. Sean’s favourite part of the week was coming home to Clonmel on Thursdays to spend the weekend together.
On a trip to Krakow, the couple discussed life plans and ideal timelines, and the topic of marriage came up. As both Joanne and Sean have huge families and know a lot of people, they toyed with the idea of having a surprise wedding to keep the day small. The more they talked about it, the more excited they became, and they started throwing out ideas. After a few months, the excitement got too much, and Joanne began to tell friends and family. Sean, too, was too excited and told his friends and family.
Joanne had been researching rings for months and naturally being creative she had her own plans for her dream ring. Joanne called and visited several jewellers and found Bespoke Diamonds to be the friendliest and most helpful staff. Joanne put in the order and left it to Sean to arrange the rest. Both Sean and Joanne said they found it so easy dealing with the staff, and “they made us feel incredibly special”.
Oddly enough, the wedding was booked, but they weren’t engaged yet, so Sean began planning that part. Knowing that Joanne’s favourite city is Paris, Sean booked a surprise trip to the City of Love. Joanne was thrilled at the thought of getting engaged and felt like a child waiting for Santa.
However, once they arrived in Paris, Sean told Joanne that he had something planned for after the trip, so it wouldn’t be happening then. Feeling a little disheartened, Joanne texted her mam and cousin, who calmed her down, and she moved on to enjoy the rest of the holiday.
When the trip was over, Sean and Joanne headed to the airport, and Joanne was confused when she didn’t see Dublin on the flight board. Sean then asked Joanne to check her boarding pass, which revealed that they were not going home but, instead, straight to Morocco, a place on Joanne’s travel bucket list. Sean had been planning the surprise for months and had Joanne’s summer clothes packed in secret. It was the best surprise ever.
Once they arrived at their hotel in Morocco, Sean asked Joanne to go to reception to get champagne glasses. When Joanne got back to the hotel room, Sean had the empty Bespoke Diamonds box sitting on his laptop with a slide show of their story so far. The last slide asked Joanne to join Sean on the roof for the next part of their story, but Sean had to come down to the room as there was a family up on the roof, and he didn’t want to share the special moment with them.
Sean got down on one knee and asked Joanne to marry him. Joanne, of course, said yes through floods of happy tears.
The now fiancés then went to the roof to video call our family and friends who were shocked to see them in Morocco as everyone knew they were in Paris. They were all blown away by Sean’s surprise and were so happy for the ecstatic couple.
