WHY IS IT CALLED A TENNIS BRACELET?
Tennis bracelets, when they first gained popularity in the 1920’s, were originally referred to as Eternity Bracelets due to their similar design to eternity rings.
It wasn’t until the 1987 US Open that term “tennis bracelet” was coined, after tennis player Chris Evert insisted officials to stop the game mid-play after she realised she had lost her diamond eternity bracelet during the match.
The media attention that came from this event caused sales to skyrocket and the “tennis bracelet” was born.
Chris Evert has often joked about not getting commission from the tennis bracelet phenomenon!
