Engagement & Wedding Ring Care

Do’s, Don’ts & Long-Term Maintenance

How to take care of your engagement ring

Your ring will live with you

An engagement or wedding ring is designed to be worn every day — through work, travel, celebrations, holidays, and ordinary life. Over time, it naturally becomes part of you.

But while diamonds are incredibly durable, rings themselves are not indestructible.

Fine jewellery experiences constant daily wear. From knocks and pressure to soap, dirt, temperature changes, and natural metal wear, every ring will eventually require some level of maintenance if worn regularly.

The good news is that most issues are completely preventable with proper care and routine inspections.

At Bespoke Diamonds, we believe your ring should last a lifetime — and beyond — with sensible maintenance and professional aftercare.

Keep the sparkle as bright as the first day!

One of the biggest misconceptions about engagement and wedding rings is that they are “maintenance free”.

In reality, even the highest quality handmade ring will naturally wear over time when worn daily. Claws slowly wear down, bands pick up scratches, settings loosen slightly, and dirt builds up in areas you can’t easily see.

This is completely normal.

Just like servicing a car or maintaining a watch, preventative care helps avoid bigger problems later.

Most maintenance is simple, affordable, and only occasionally required — especially when caught early.

Common Questions & Misconceptions About Ring Maintenance

What to do if there is a problem with your ring

Tell us!

We welcome the opportunity to make your ring look good as new.

Whether your ring had an accident, you ignored the care advice or something else happened, we want to help.

In most cases, we can repair your ring relatively easily. We offer a “Cost-Price Goldsmith” promise where you only pay for the goldsmiths’ time and materials used.

This means things like tightening claws is typically free, retipping claws could cost €50-100.

In the worst case scenario where a ring needs to be remade, we can use the same materials and with our cost-price guarantee, it won’t cost anywhere near what the ring originally cost.

So don’t be afraid to tell us what actually happened, it also helps us to advise on the best solution for the ring to avoid a recurrence.
